Asphalt paving across Delaware

H&H Asphalt Paving serves residential and commercial properties across the Delaware counties in our service area, from the more developed communities of New Castle County through Kent County and into Sussex County. The type of paving work changes with the property: residential driveways and private lanes, commercial parking lots, resurfacing, repairs, sealcoating, and new asphalt installation all require different preparation and traffic considerations.

Delaware’s weather and flat-to-gently rolling terrain make drainage and base preparation especially important. Water that sits at pavement edges or works into cracks can accelerate deterioration during freeze-thaw cycles. We evaluate the condition of the existing surface and base before recommending whether a property needs repair, resurfacing, maintenance, or full replacement.

Our Process

How we approach asphalt paving in Delaware

Every project starts with the pavement, base, drainage, and intended use. From older paved surfaces in northern Delaware to growing residential and commercial areas farther south, the goal is the same: build the pavement from the base up and give water a reliable path off the surface.

  1. 1

    Site inspection

We evaluate the existing pavement, traffic patterns, drainage, grading, and the condition of the base before recommending a scope of work.

  2. 2

    Removal & preparation

Failed pavement and unstable material are removed as needed so the new surface is not being placed over a weak foundation.

  3. 3

    Grading & drainage

The surface is graded to move water away from structures and low areas. Drainage is a major factor in long-term pavement performance.

  4. 4

    Stone base

A stable, compacted stone base is installed or rebuilt where needed to support the pavement above it.

  5. 5

    Asphalt installation

Hot-mix asphalt is installed at a depth appropriate for the property, expected traffic, and type of paving project.

  6. 6

    Rolling & compaction

The new asphalt is compacted into a dense, even surface designed to resist movement and premature deterioration.

  7. 7

    Cleanup & finishing

Edges, transitions, and surrounding work areas are finished and cleaned before the project is completed.

  8. 8

    Aftercare

We explain curing and maintenance recommendations so the new pavement has the best chance to perform well over time.
